Born in Turin (Italy) in 1980, since he was a child, Riccardo Di Gianni discovered the possibility of creating sounds and melodies by playing different musical instruments or simple objects. He grew up listening to whatever moves him, regardless of musical genre, from rock to classical music, from electronic to world music.
Fascinated by creation, experimentation and improvisation, he decided to study guitar and jazz harmony at the Turin Conservatory where he graduated in 2006.
The same year he bought his first sitar, but he soon realized that the only way to learn seriously was to go to India. So he flew to Varanasi where he began studying sitar and classical singing. His studies in India led him to conceive music and sound in a new form. Distancing himself from the stereotypes brought about by the "Flower power" of the 70s, he is fascinated by the (millennial) Indian tradition by the connections between the notes and the emotions that man feels throughout his life, between the frequencies (understood as vibration acoustics) and the energy centers of our body.
Riccardo Di Gianni is currently one of the few European musicians to have studied in India and to perform concerts of Indian classical music in Europe.
After ten years of intense studies of Indian music (which he still continues to study and practice), he returns to the guitar with a different awareness. What he wants is to evoke moods with music and create soundscapes capable of telling a story.
His latest project is the creation of the trio M.E.T.E. (Music enlightens the Earth) together with Ludovico d'Apollo (double bass) and Elias farina (African drums and drums). Indian scales, African rhythms, jazz, funk and prog merge into a single sound language, a fascinating musical journey between ethnic music and experimentation, where ancient traditions combine with contemporaneity.
The trio recorded the album "Music Enlightens the Earth" in 2023, produced by the Dodicilune label, distributed in Italy and abroad by Ird and in online stores by Believe Digital.

Nato a Torino nel 1980, Riccardo Di Gianni scopre sin da bambino la possibilità di creare suoni e melodie giocando con diversi strumenti musicali o semplici oggetti. Cresce ascoltando qualsiasi cosa lo emozioni, aldilà del genere musicale, dal rock alla musica classica, dall'elettronica alla musica "etnica".
Affascinato dalla creazione, dalla sperimentazione e dall'improvvisazione decide di studiare chitarra e armonia jazz al Conservatorio di Torino dove si diplomerà nel 2006.
Lo stesso anno compra il suo primo sitar, ma si rende ben presto conto che l'unico modo per imparare seriamente è andare in India. Così vola a Varanasi dove inizia a studiare sitar e canto classico. Gli studi in India lo portano a concepire la musica e il suono sotto una nuova forma. Prendendo le distanze dagli stereotipi portati dal "Flower power" degli anni '70, della tradizione (millenaria) indiana lo affascinano i collegamenti tra le note e le emozioni che l'uomo prova nel corso della propria vita, tra le frequenze (intese come vibrazione acustica) e i centri energetici del nostro corpo.
Riccardo Di Gianni è attualmente uno dei pochi musicisti europei ad aver fatto questo percorso di studi in India e ad eseguire concerti di musica classica indiana in Europa.
Dopo dieci anni di intensi studi di musica indiana (che continua tuttora a studiare e praticare) torna sulla chitarra con una consapevolezza diversa. Quello che vuole è evocare stati d'animo con la musica e creare paesaggi sonori capaci di raccontare una storia.
Il suo ultimo progetto è la creazione del trio M.E.T.E. (Music enlightens the Earth) insieme a Ludovico d'Apollo (contrabbasso) ed Elias farina (tamburi africani e batteria). Scale indiane, ritmi africani, jazz, funk e prog si fondono in un unico linguaggio sonoro, un affascinante percorso musicale fra musica etnica e sperimentazione, dove tradizioni antiche si uniscono alla contemporaneità.
Il trio incide il disco Music Enlightens the Earth nel 2023 prodotto dall’etichetta Dodicilune, distribuito in Italia e all’estero da Ird e negli store on-line da Believe Digital.
